Le Festival Cinéma d’Alès – Itinérances , manifestation généraliste créée en 1983, conjugue fictions, documentaires, animation, patrimoine et découvertes autour d’un public nombreux, intergénérationnel et aux origines variées. Le Festival valorise la jeune création européenne en mettant en avant des films qui n’auront pas la chance d’une exposition commerciale majeure, s’investit dans l’éducation à l’image avec une programmation jeune public et des actions en direction des élèves de la maternelle à l’université.

Au-delà de l’organisation de cet événement, l’association mène tout au long de l’année plusieurs actions complémentaires : l’animation et la coordination des dispositifs d’éducation à l’image École et Cinéma dans le Gard et Lycéens et Apprentis au cinéma en Occitanie (avec Cinephilae), le partenariat culturel pour l’enseignement cinéma-audiovisuel des lycées Jean-Baptiste Dumas d’Alès et Albert Einstein de Bagnols-sur-Cèze, la mise en place de nombreuses séances spéciales avec des exploitants, des médiathèques et la scène nationale du Cratère, ainsi que l’organisation fin août du Festival Ciné Été avec Alès Agglomération.

Le Prix Itinérances
Initié à l’occasion du 40e Festival en 2022, le Prix Itinérances est le symbole d’un cinéma populaire et exigeant, libre et engagé dans notre monde. Il célèbre les cinéastes que nous aimons, les artistes qui comptent, et affirme le cinéma (en salle) que nous défendons depuis 40 ans, un lieu de vie, de partage et d’échanges.

Chaque année l’intitulé Itinérances est décliné au travers de rétrospectives thématiques qui conjuguent films de fiction, documentaires, films d’archives, rencontres, ciné-concerts et nuits du cinéma. La compétition de courts métrages francophones
Dédiée aux jeunes talents, elle constitue l’un des moments forts du Festival. Plus de 900 films sont inscrits chaque année à cette compétition, une dizaine est finalement retenue et présentée aux nombreux spectateurs et aux jurys.

La Méditerranée dans un fauteuil
Depuis 25 ans, le collectif La Méditerranée dans un fauteuil participe à la programmation du Festival en sélectionnant une quinzaine de films ainsi que des projets musicaux qui reflètent les cultures du bassin méditerranéen. Les associations d’insertion sociale impliquées dans ce collectif incitent leurs bénéficiaires à participer au Festival, à échanger et à se rencontrer autour des films et concerts proposés.

Pour que le cinéma soit plus qu’un divertissement, mais aussi une façon de voir autrement, la programmation Jeune Public du Festival offre les moyens d’éduquer le regard afin de ne plus être un simple spectateur mais un témoin averti. Avec une programmation dédiée d’une trentaine de films, le concours de critiques de films Écrits sur l’Image, des classes en résidences venues de toute la France, des rencontres, le quotidien du Festival Toute la Ville en parle rédigé par des lycéens, de nombreux ateliers, des ciné-concerts, des expositions…

Événements
L’une des volontés du Festival est de dresser des passerelles entre le cinéma et les autres arts. Dans cette perspective, des concerts, ciné-concerts, rencontres, séances en réalité virtuelle, expositions, masterclass, séances de dédicaces… sont programmés.
Les séances du Festival sont des moments privilégiés de rencontres entre les œuvres, le public et les talents qui accompagnent les films et échangent avec les spectateurs. Les professionnels du cinéma sont accueillis tout au long du Festival lors d’événements dédiés
